Peça que tradicionalmente se oferecia aos noivos quando se casavam, desde o séc. XIX, desejando abundância e felicidade na sua casa e na vida conjugal.

O peixe às postas simboliza o milagre bíblico da partilha e da multiplicação. As pintas azuis, simbolizam o dinheiro que surgiu por milagre bíblico na boca do peixe quando foi pescado, mas também, como o resultado do trabalho na pesca (simbolizado pela redes pintadas), ou do trabalho no campo.

Para que nunca falte o trabalho e o dinheiro em casa dos noivos.

Na beira do prato, as sete composições, cada com a espiga de trigo, uvas e uma flor (papoila), representando a satisfação das necessidades diárias de pão (que dá vida ao mundo), de vinho (sangue da vida), da fertilidade e felicidade. Para não falte em todos os dia das semana. A serpente simboliza a tentação e o pecado, para lembrar que existe e que a devem evitar.

Handpainted decorative plate, with crackle glaze and holes in the back to hang, with a traditional Portuguese fish cut in four pieces, in the center, and colourful border with wheat spikes, grapes and poppy flowers.

The fish cut in four pieces symbolizes the Biblical miracle of sharing and multiplication. The blue dots, symbolizes the money that came in fish’s mouth, (Biblical miracle) when he was caught, also as the result of fishing work (symbolized by the fishing nets), or the work in the fields. For there is always money and work to the newlyweds.

In the border of the plate, the seven compositions, with an wheat spike, grapes and a poppy flower, representing the daily needs, satisfaction of bread (that gives life to the world), wine (life blood), fertility and happiness each weekday.

The snake symbolizes temptation and sin, to remind that it exists and must be avoid.
